Leadership Through the Lens of the 12-Steps

The 12-Steps were originally created in 1935 as part of the program, Alcoholics Anonymous. The basis of this blueprint for living was designed to help those living with alcoholism not only abstain from drinking but also help them to develop better relationships through self-assessment, admission of wrongs done to others and ultimately improving one’s connection with a Higher Power as well as “carrying the message” to others who may suffer from a similar malady.

There are many parallels that can be drawn from the principles found in the 12-Steps and those utilized in the world of leadership. While these themes are spiritual in nature, they are also universal. Honesty, open-mindedness, and willingness are but a few of the principles that can be applied to the decisions leaders make.

This workshop will provide an overview of the 12-Steps of recovery from a personal perspective and translate it into how they can be applied to leadership. There will be opportunities for small group breakout sessions (depending on the number of participants) and broader group discussions to help with the understanding of the concepts.
