Volunteer Testimonials

I have been a member of our local Buffalo Niagara ATD chapter since 2012. Throughout my career, I’ve always worked in Human Resources – doing employment, employee relations and general HR. I had an opportunity to join the Organizational Development and Training Department here at UB, which looked like a good way to round out my HR background. Being new to the training arena on a full-time basis, I looked for information and professional development – and found it within ATD.

Through the monthly meetings, webinars and conferences, I was exposed to so many aspects of the training profession.  Some of my best practices are a result of what I learned in those meetings. It has also given me an opportunity to connect with other professionals, and share ideas and new processes they are working on. I have developed a true network of practitioners I can call for advice and information.

I decided to get more involved by joining the Board as VP of Membership.    One of the highlights of my time on the Board has been developing deeper connections with other Board members.  Another highlight was the ATD Leadership conference in Washington D.C. Training professionals from around the US attended and shared information and practices that have made our own ATD chapter even better.

I am so glad I stepped up and became an officer in this organization.  It had been a great addition to my ongoing learning in the field.

Susan N. Steck, Member since 2012

I joined ATD Buffalo Niagara in 2009 and have held a board position since February 2015 when I got a call asking if I would fill out an expiring term. I was looking for ways to grow my knowledge, so I gladly accepted the opportunity to become more fully involved with my local ATD chapter. I served for 4 months and quickly jumped at the chance to continue on the board as the VP of Communications for my very own 2-year term.  I am now in the middle of my second term as the communications lead and I have learned so much in these past 3+ years. I have had the opportunity to learn new technology, network with industry professionals, attend the ATD Leaders conference in Washington D.C., enjoy social events and share my expertise with others.  I have experienced all this because I said Yes.  Yes to taking on a leadership role with a group that has allowed me to practice my craft and learn from the best.

Kim Stahl, Member since 2009
