Laugh and Learn: Applying Stand-up Comedy Principles to Your Training

ATD Buffalo Niagara events are fun, informative and often include a few good laughs. This session is all about the laughs! 

Join host Artrell Williams fun-filled interactive webinar. Explore how you can maximize engagement in your training programs by adding a splash of humor. A sense of humor can be an effective teaching tool in any learning environment, especially when you are focused on effective learner engagement. Research shows that teachers who use humor are much more effective at motivating, engaging, reducing anxiety, and developing positive teacher-student relationships.  Giggle and guffaw in an immersive training as Artrell performs a set of stand-up comedy.

Get ready for more laughs! Using a framework and job aid, you will create own comedy moments, applying the art of humor to deliver on learning prompts, outcomes and OKRs. When we return to the main room, representatives of each group will share the comedy creations!

About the Presenter:

Artrell Williams transitioned into Corporate Learning in 2008 after several years in Sales and Telecommunications Leadership positions. Early into his learning and development career, he realized the transferrable skills that helped make him successful in both Sales and Training. Artrell is a certified Facilitator of DDI, MBTI and Blanchard’s SLII content and has facilitated in-person and virtual trainings on Sales, Technical Skills, Soft Skills and Leadership Development. He has worked with groups across the United States, in Canada and in Zambia, Africa.

After spending 15 years with a national telecommunications provider, he switched industries to join an international rubber manufacturer where he has overseen the learning function since 2018. In an effort to improve his overall public speaking abilities, Artrell began performing stand-up comedy routines in local venues. He immediately became hooked and began to study the art and techniques used by professional comics and humorists. In each of the 3 years that he has entered Helium Comedy Club’s Buffalo’s Funniest Person Competition, he has advanced beyond the early round.

Artrell currently resides in Cheektowaga, NY with his wife and children. If he isn’t playing learning mind games with his 8-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son, he can be found volunteering in his community through music, cooking/catering and speaking. He began a Calamari Quest in 2001 and appreciates any insights on where he can find the best calamari dishes to eat in your town.
